The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Italian: Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo), is a 1966 Italian epic spaghetti western film directed by Sergio Leone, starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach in the title roles. The screenplay was written by Age & Scarpelli, Luciano Vincenzoni and Leone, based on a story by Vincenzoni and Leone. Director of photography Tonino Delli Colli, was responsible for the film's sweeping widescreen cinematography and Ennio Morricone composed the famous film score, including its main theme. It is the third and final film in the Dollars trilogy following A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965). The plot centers around three gunslingers competing to find a fortune in buried Confederate gold amid the violent chaos of gunfights, hangings, Civil War battles and prison camps. Opening on December 15, 1966 in Italy and in the United States on December 23, 1967, the film grossed $6.1 million, but was criticized for its depiction of violence. Leone explains that "the killings in my films are exaggerated because I wanted to make a tongue-in-cheek satire on run-of-the-mill westerns... The west was made by violent, uncomplicated men, and it is this strength and simplicity that I try to recapture in my pictures." To this day, Leone's effort to reinvigorate the timeworn Western is widely acknowledged: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly has been described as European cinema's best representation of the Western genre film, and Quentin Tarantino has called it "the best-directed film of all time."

Big fan of the entire Dollar Trilogy, great movie. One of the best finales in movie history.

Never seen it, and not a fan of Westerns in general, so... I voted "not a fan" for this one.

That's just BS if you vote not a fan just cause you haven't seen it. Then again, you both are weirdos so I should expect nothing less from you two

Does our voting "not a fan" offend you, for some reason? Sorry if that's the case, dude, but the poll asks a question and I answer. It's not a knock on the movie; I'm just not a fan of westerns, and vote accordingly.

You guys shouldn't vote if you don't know what something is or haven't seen something. It's a bit unfair.

For reference, I don't go around saying I'm not a fan of some band I've never heard a song from.

How is it unfair? The question isn't "Is this good or not?" or anything of that sort. If it was, I wouldn't have voted. But it's asking if I'm a fan of something... and if I'm not a fan, for whatever reason, I don't see why I should be barred from saying so. Like I said, it's not a knock on whatever it is I'm not a fan of; I'm just not a fan of it.

Hmm, I'll give you that based on the fact that you don't like Westerns, but it's still a bit screwy, I think. I don't know, I'll shut up now. You have defeated me.

Okay, I thought of something.
You say the thread question wasn't if you think something is good or not.
Well, it is pretty much is just that.
I don't see how you can be a fan of something but not think it's good, or visa versa. So it's the same question.
I'm not trying to start something and I don't have a problem with you not liking something...but you don't KNOW that you don't like something, because you haven't seen it.
Therefore, you can't say that you're not a fan.

So I AM a fan, then?

...that's your argument? You're neither. You can't form a judgment on something you have no form of reference on. Back to music comparison: Say this thread said are you a fan of Kanye West. I'm not a fan of rap music. BUT I have never heard a song he's done. I'm familiar with his name, and that's it. How can I form an opinion strongly enough to either be a fan or not a fan of his work based on that? Therefore, I stay out of the thread.

Before this goes any further, let me just say this is just an argument between two people, I'm not trying to call you out on anything or nothin'. I think you're a cool dude, I just don't want to come off as a dickhead or something.

If you don't know something, it stands to reason that you are not currently a fan of that something. Simple as, in my opinion. So if I'm asked to pick one of two choices, either being a fan or not a fan, I have no problem choosing the latter if I don't feel that I'm a fan.
And if this was a thread asking for fans of something to come forward, I'd stay out as I'd have nothing to add. But it's not. It's a daily poll that asks a very simple question, and it's a question I can answer.

It's a daily poll that asks a very simple question, and it's a question I can answer. Okay. Which part of the film did you feel didn't quite deliver the way you wanted it to? Can you explain to me more than "I don't like westerns" about what turned you off about it? You have one piece of info on the movie. One. One bit of information about something isn't nearly enough to form an opinion on it. At all. It's just unfair to the poll because it's clearly for people who have seen the movie or TV show in question what they think about it. You not being a fan would be fine with me, if you had seen it. You wouldn't even have had to finish it, just seen more than thirty minutes of it and decided you didn't like. But you haven't, so you can't have an opinion on it that's valid to this poll. Not tryin' to be a jerk.

I'm not really forming an opinion on it. To me, "not a fan" is pretty much a default mode. If I don't know about something, I obviously don't know enough to BE a fan. Hence, I am not a fan, even if its only because of that lack of familiarity.
And I'm not really worried about my lack of fandom being valid. I'm just answering the question being asked, and leaving it at that.
