I thought this would be an interesting thread since I know that lots of video games have had awful endings.
I, myself, suffered through one yesterday. I finally beat Zelda: Ocharina of Time for the first yesterday. Make no mistake about it the game itself up until the ending was one of the best I've ever played. The ending was bad: after I restored peace to Hyrule, Princess Zelda took back the Ocharina of Time, forced Link to put the Master Sword back in it's place, and as a result turned Link from an adult to a kid.

I thought it was a good ending. Link got to live his life, instead of being forced to lose his childhood.

I'll actually post something on topic tommorow, bob. It's just about 3AM here and I'm in that really tired fuzzy area of thinking and can't peice anything together.

I'm sure it probably doesn't count, since it's supposed to be a bad ending, but...
In one of the endings to Ogre Battle 64, after you've beaten the final boss and saved the kingdom, you're exiled from said kingdom for being too chaotic and the kingdom itself is later over-run by barbarians. Oh, and an evil wizard is reborn via a baby that crawls out of a dead woman.

I really liked Dead Rising, but the ending gave no resolution, and I thought the game kinda jumped the shark in overtime mode.
It didn't help that the game didn't explain who Brock was.

The ending of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was really lame to me.

the last hour or so of Indigo Prophecy Oh god yes. Talk about a game jumping the shark. The game was this awesome, cult-based, horror/thriller themed adventure THEN BAM.

Jak 3. I loved everything up till the ending, which sadly felt kind of corny to me (although NONE of the Jak games seemed to deliver much when it came to an ending). I'd note the others but since this was the last of the "main" games in the trilogy, it stands out to me more.

I thought the way FALLOUT3 was just....over was kind of lame. Which is why after getting a heads up from a friend, I still haven't "beaten" it yet. I just have to basically walk through a door, though, and it's over.

I haven't beaten Broken Steel myself, but I've heard it doesn't just "End" like the original ending to Fallout3.

Yeah, except that the DLC won't hit for us PS3 people until June. Damn SONY, anyway. And they wonder why they ALWAYS get unfavorable comparisons to Microsoft.

The ending of Smackdown!: Shut Your Mouth. You beat Stone Cold at Wrestlemania, shake his hand, Vince McMahon comes out and berates both of you, and you both punch him at the same time, fade to black. YAWN

Dude, the ending to Oot made me said. Mostly because it played that depressing Zelda lullaby and showed clips of all the memories you made in the game, but I liked it.
As for ones I thought were bad, I'll say God of War II. It made the whole game feel like just a trailer for a third game that I think is coming out this year or something. It set you up for the punch, and then stopped short and said maybe next time.

I heard the ending spoiler to the new Bionic Commando, and it sounds hilarious.
(Spoilers) The dude's wife sacrificed herself so she could be his arm. WTF? How is that a plausible solution to limb loss? I guess they killed her and turned her body into metal or something. Or perhaps they shrunk her and she's inside the arm controlling it. It makes no sense.
