So, who else has seen or is going to see this movie?
I just got back from it, and my verdict is that it's... alright. The beginning was pretty boring; it felt like a prologue to set up the real story, but it just went on and on until it became apparent that it WAS the real story. Once things picked up, though, it got pretty decent. I won't go see it in theaters again, but I may rent it when it comes out on DVD, and I'll go to see a sequel if they make one.

I posted a lengthy review of it in the WC horror thread, but the short version is this - I concur with your assessment of the movie. It's just alright, nothing special, although my opinion on the segments of the movie is different from yours. I really liked the opening bits of cinema verite/setup, whereas I thought the latter half of the movie turned into every other Michael Bay-ed up action flick. Just my $.02.

I thought it was pretty awesome, maybe the second best movie I've seen this year, yeah the beginning did drag for a little, but not enough to hurt it to much, and the action was awesome, especially when some of the "badder guys" (don't want to spoil to much) get what's coming to them.

I loved this film, and think it deserves some attention come Oscar time. Definitely a costume nom, and maybe even a Best Actor nod for the lead human actor Sharlto Copley.
Really, it's been among the best SciFi and Horror offerings this year.

I had thought that for certain parts of it, animatronics were used?

I think the Wikas' arm and all was makeup though, right?

Must have been pretty good effects if people can't tell what's what.

I think the Wikas' arm and all was makeup though, right? I dunno, probably. I haven't seen the movie, I just read the "all aliens are CGI" during the directors interview at Comic-Con.

Anyone think we might see a sequel? It certainly leaves the door open for one, and it seems to have been a success at the box office.

I hope not. I hope they leave it as is.

I hope not. I hope they leave it as is. I agree with you, Pool. I think it ended perfectly as it was. Anything more would be just so much lesser of a film than this one was. I mean, where do they go if they DO make a sequel? The Prawn return, this time with warships? That would make it just another run of the mill "us vs. them" alien movie.

I want a sequel, I want to know if the pran keeps his promise, and yadda and such. Ok, but if he does, and they come back, what happens then? All out war? You know SOMEHOW if the aliens DO attack, the US will be involved, and then it's just ID4 part deux. Which is something I really don't care to see, myself. But if you have another idea about how a sequel could go, and I am being serious here, I'd love to hear it, because I really don't know HOW they'd do it.

Neither do I, that's the writers job.
I'm too tired right now, but I'll try to maybe come up with something later.

I mean either way Wikas is screwed. If Christopher comes back for war then wouldn't turning Wikas back be condeming him? If he just comes back to pick up his people, no war, and fixes Wikas, then the local government is probably going to drag Wikas in for all sorts of testing on his body.

I want a sequel, I want to know if the pran keeps his promise, and yadda and such. Same here. Plus, I'm of the opinion that you'll never know if a movie will be good or not until it's been made and you've seen it. So, if they do make a sequel and it sucks, then oh well; there's still the first movie. But if they make it and it's good, then awesome; we'll have another good movie to enjoy. And for some reason, I doubt they'd do a stereotypical "us vs them war" type of deal. I mean, they didn't do that for District 9, so maybe they'd think up something equally interesting for a sequel.

Christopher said three years right? Which makes the year of the return of the Prawn.....wait for it.....wait for it.....
