ROBERT SMIGEL was a featured player on SNL from 1991 to 1993. He played Carl Wollarski, of Bill Swersky's Superfans, and did an impression of lawyer/political commentator Alan Dershowitz. Smigel's impact on SNL has been far better established by his creation of the animated shorts Saturday TV Funhouse. His face might not be too familiar to you, but his voice more than likely is, as he's voiced the likes of the Ambiguously Gay Duo's nemesis Bighead, Al Sharpton, and SNL creator Lorne Michaels, among others. "The Best of Saturday TV Funhouse" is available on DVD, showcasing Smigel's work as the main creative force behind the cartoons (the opening montage of a typical SNL episode refers to Saturday TV Funhouse as "A Cartoon by Robert Smigel").
Smigel's animated shorts garnered their own spin-off show TV Funhouse on Comedy Central. In addition, Smigel's worked quite extensively with SNL alumni, including as writer and executive producer of the short-lived Dana Carvey Show, and he was the first head writer of Late Night with Conan O'Brien (Conan was also a writer for SNL) and the creator of the character Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Smigel's also occasionally shown up in films, such as cameos in Wayne's World 2, Punch-Drunk Love, and I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. He was the voice of Beefy the Dog in Little Nicky, and he co-wrote the script to the movie You Don't Mess with the Zohan.
JULIA SWEENEY was an SNL castmember from 1990 to 1994. Her characters include Sandy, a girl pestered by Rob Schneider's "Richmeister" character; Dame Sarah Kensington, of the show Theatre Stories; and the confusingly androgynous Pat. Her impressions include Chelsea Clinton, Nancy Sinatra, Naomi Judd, MTV VJ Tabitha Soren, and Loni Anderson.
Julia's off-SNL work includes her award-winning monologues, such as God Said Ha!; roles in films such as Pulp Fiction, Whatever It Takes, and Stuart Little; and appearances on the television shows 3rd Rock from the Sun, Mad About You, According to Jim, Frasier, and Sex & the City. Her character Pat was adapted into a full-length movie titled It's Pat! in 1994.
