Match 12 features two all-time greats in SNL history...
CHEVY CHASE was a member of the original cast of SNL, and is considered to be the first break-out star the show has produced. Chase opted to leave the show during the second season to gain greater fame as a big movie star, but since then he's hosted the show 8 times and made numerous cameo appearances, even as recently as 2007. He memorably essayed the role of The Land Shark, trying to get unwitting innocent people to open their doors so he can eat them. He's also played the host of the gameshow "You Can't Win!", Cow Man, a bovine counterpart to Goat Boy, and his Word Association sketch with Richard Pryor is cited as one of the funniest and most daring in sketches in SNL history. He's performed impressions of Gerald Ford (showcasing his physical comedy talents) and Leonard Nimoy, among others. Chevy was also the first Weekend Update anchor, where he uttered the popular line "I'm Chevy Chase, and you're not", and when he was on the show, Chase said the line "Live from New York, It's Saturday Night!" on almost every episode. Chevy's work on the show won him two Emmy awards (one for writing and one for performing), a Golden Globe, and his own "Best of"...VHS, which has yet to be re-released on this newfangled DVD technology.
Chevy's post-SNL output is quite prolific, some notable works include Caddyshack with Bill Murray, the National Lampoon's Vacation movies (in no particular order: Vacation, Christmas Vacation, European Vacation, Vegas Vacation) usually alongside Randy Quaid (who would join SNL for one season as a castmember), frequent SNL guest Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al" video, the Fletch films, Nothing but Trouble with Dan Aykroyd, iThree Amigos! with Steve Martin and Martin Short, and Dirty Work with Norm MacDonald, among many more. He's also been a recurring character on NBC's Chuck, had his own short-lived talk show, he's got a new show with Joel McHale coming (I can't remember the name right now), and in 2002 he was roasted on Comedy Central.
Lastly, waaaay back when Chevy first hosted SNL, he got into an altercation with...
BILL MURRAY joined the cast of SNL in 1977, sticking around until 1980. Bill would return to host the show 5 times, and make cameos occasionally. Bill's characters include Nick the Lounge Singer, Niko, an employee at the Greek-run Olympia Cafe (before becoming the name of a restaurant "Cheeburger Cheeburger" was a line recited by the Greeks working at the restaurant in these sketches), Todd DiLaMuca, nerdy compatriate of Gilda Radner's Lisa Loopner character, and an ex-police officer who tries to uphold the law in his own apartment building (X-Police sketches, alongside Dan Aykroyd). Bill's impressions include Bobby Kennedy, Cary Grant, Francis Ford Coppola, Tony Orlando, and Walter Mondale. He's also plugged a book titled "The Quotable Caddyshack," for all the occasions when you'd need a Caddyshack quote, alongside Chevy. Bill's work on SNL earned him an Emmy for writing.
If you don't know what Bill's done after SNL, where the hell have you been?! Anyway, there's the aforementioned Caddyshack with Chevy Chase, Ghostbusters 1 and 2 with Dan Aykroyd, Meatballs, Stripes, Little Shop of Horrors with Steve Martin, Scrooged, What About Bob?, Groundhog Day with Chris Elliott (the American Film Institute named it one of the ten best fantasy films ever made), Ed Wood, Kingpin, and many many more great films.
