The music in particular felt Star Trekky.

Maybe this is why Star Trek has done so well--unlike lots of modern "revamped" series-to-movie adaptations these days, Star Trek actually stayed true to the series instead of being a confusing lump of...confusion.
It makes a difference when people aren't being screwed over on the quality in an attempt to make the movie "Contemporary."

Eh. I've enjoyed most of the adaptation movies that have come out in recent years (Dragonball Evolution, Transformers, Street Fighter, Iron Man) regardless of the chances. About the only one I DIDN'T enjoy was Watchmen, and from what I've heard that was one adaptation that stayed almost completely true to the source. Go figure, eh?

The thing this movie did better than most other Reboots was it stayed close enough to the OG to not piss off most of the fans (there will always be whiners no matter what, hence why I said most) but it also created enough of an identity for itself that it created new fans.

Didn't the time travel stuff essentially give them freedom to deviate from the source material a bit, seeing as how it created an alternate reality?

I loved Dragonball Evolution. I thought it was a good flick. A little too short, but good none the less.

I'd certainly say this is true. I'm not saying it's got to be a carbon copy of what it's derived from, of course, but it seems like a lot of movies do a wee bit better when they're closer to what they're based on rather than farther. Part of the reason DBE failed so miserably was because it was WAY off, and at this point in time it has a cult following, but isn't really mainstream anymore. The people who make up the cult following want it to be authentic. And because DBE didn't deliver...it didn't do well at all.

I definately thought Star Trek was the second coming of Jesus. I not only don't care for Star Trek, but I HATE Star Trek. I was tricked into seeing this movie. I loved every second of it, lol.
