First Round Results:
1.Colin Quinn eliminates Joe Piscopo, 8-1. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
On to the next match...
STEVE MARTIN holds the record for most appearances hosting SNL. He's done so 15 times, starting way back in 1976, and his most recent was this past January. A common misconception is that Steve was actually a castmember on SNL, given his many appearances on the show. And he's got his own "Best Of" DVD available wherever fine home videos are sold! During his time hosting SNL, Martin has played Georg Festrunk, one half of the "Wild and Crazy Guys" with Dan Aykroyd, he's played Theodoric of York, Medieval barber, he's put out his own brand of penis beauty cream, he's performed a musical number about King Tut, he's hosted a version of Jeopardy set in the far off year of 1999, he's tried to sabotage Alec Baldwin's hosting of the show on occasion, and he's also hosted the witty "Common Knowledge" gameshow sketch, where answers for the show are collected from high school students.
Steve's also worked with a wide range of SNL alumni in films (films which happen to showcase his comedic chops quite well), included Kevin Nealon and Damon Wayans in Roxanne, Bill Murray in Little Shop of Horrors, Martin Short and Chevy Chase in iThree Amigos!, Chris Rock and Phil Hartman in Sgt. Bilko, and Eddie Murphy in Bowfinger. He's also appeared in the show 30 Rock alongside Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, and Five-Timer Alec Baldwin.
Oh, I almost forgot: in addition to hosting SNL, Steve's also made surprise cameos from time to time. Including the "Five Timers Club" sketch, where the concept was first introduced, and he, Elliott Gould, and Paul Simon welcomed...
TOM HANKS has hosted SNL 8 times, the first being in 1985 and the most recent being in 2006. As host of SNL, Hanks has shown a certain level of humility, sending up his most successful films, like showing deleted scenes from Big where he humiliates child actors, and even mocking himself in a notable Celebrity Jeopardy sketch on May 16th, 2009. Hanks has also portrayed a luckless Girl Watcher alongside Jon Lovitz, a man with no short-term memory delighted to meet Tony Randall (!) several times in the five minutes he's seated next to the man for a game show, and Paul, a stereotypical mid-80s observational stand-up comic. Hanks has also performed impressions, most notably playing Dennis Miller during a Weekend Update segment which also featured Dana Carvey as Miller, and Miller as himself. Hanks also has his own "Best Of" DVD available.
Hanks would also appear in the film Punchline with fellow SNL Five-Timer John Goodman, A League of Their Own with Jon Lovitz, Catch Me If You Can with Five-Timer Christopher Walken, and he really recently gave former SNL writer Conan O'Brien the nickname "CoCo Christopher."
