Ok...so I shelled out and went and saw this the other day, and I have to say....it was a tad disappointing. I mean, it barely had a plot, and the only reason to go and see it AT ALL would be for the 3D kills, many of which, for some reason, didn't work in my theater.
Outside of that, this film, though it WAS fun in an "Oh GOD how can they top THAT!" kind of way, was pretty bare bones, and it felt like I got ripped off by being charged such a high price for such a short film. Add to that the fact that
SPOILERS!!!!!!!
you don't even see the end kills except for a skeletal rendering
END SPOILERS!
and it felt even MORE like I got cheated. Myself, I was seriously hoping since this WAS supposed to be the last film in the series, that they'd at least have Tony Todd show up and explain just why the hell these young adults keep getting these premonitions and get the chance to cheat death.
My ending? I would have had the lead guy get killed off too....only to have paramedics restart his heart, leading to a near death experience wherein he sees Death (voiced by Tony Todd ) who explains to him that every so often, for a bit of recreation, Death likes to see if any humans are smart enough to beat him at his own game....and thus far, none have. However, since Lead Guy has just had his heart restarted, he now has a chance to beat Death....and all he has to do it avoid it for the rest of his natural life. That's all....just NOT get killed. But Death will be waiting for him wherever he goes.....at which point Lead Guy sits bolt upright in the ambulance, screams his head off, and we go to credits.
Would have been better than what we got as an ending, at any rate.

One thing to consider though, are these movies really known for their gripping plot?

I think the "plot" of the Final Destination movies is basically "You can't escape death, F you and die now" which is pretty much why I went and watched it, to see people die in gruesome ways, though it did feel a bit on the short side.

Here is my short ass review:
-The movie is stupid. I mean when you analyze it, it's just stupid. Things that can't happen (entire engine blocks flying around like nothing, pool filters sucking people in, etc), no storyline at all, not scary at all, why doesn't death just give them a heartattack instead of all this Rube Goldberg Machinery of Death stuff?
- HOWEVER, the movie is just supposed to be fun. None of this previous stuff really matters because it's basically just about seeing people die in cool ways and... welll... as sick as it sounds laughing at it.
- ANOTHER HOWEVER, just because that's what this version is with the 3D doesn't mean it can keep going on. If this one wasn't in 3D it would have been utterly pointless to watch, as it was NO different than the others. This series has some serious fatigue going on and the 3D acted like a 5Hr energy shot.

I'm gonna avoid this movie like the plague. I made the mistake of seeing the 2nd one, and to this day I'm nervous as hell whenever I'm driving behind a logging truck.

The first movie was serious, after that I don't think they are going for "good movie", only insane deaths, and as long as they keep making money (which they do) there will be no end to it, kinda like Saw.

Funny enough, I found the first FD movie to be the worst. I'm not saying it's bad but I like 2 and 3 better

Yeah the first one played off as a serious movie, 2 and 3 are just good fun. I think the first movie's seriousness was its undoing. It pretended to be something more than what it was and it didn't work, the only value was to see how people died.

I too found the movie a little disappointing, 'Schach, although I do give it slightly more credit than you do. The acting in the movie is pretty much horrible across the board, and the only characters that I cared about in the slightest were lead guy (Bobby Campo) and sympathetic security guard (Mykelti Williamson, who is a severely underrated actor). Having said that, I thought the movie was a damn fun time at the movie theater, and I don't regret giving my money to it over Zombie's Halloween II considering that now I've seen that film as well. And it sucked just as much as everyone says it does.

I also noticed this is the first one without the Candyman in it. What'supwitdat? THAT is perhaps the biggest disappointment of all. I mean, this series has come to be known for his cameos....and to deny us that, especially in the "last installment" is unforgivable. Which is why I suggested a better ending with him at least showing up as the voice of Death. I will agree with DP again that the whole "chain of events"/ Rube Goldberg stuff is beyong STALE. It would have been much more fresh and exciting to see some truly random deaths, such as were shown in 1 and 2. In those films, simple slip ups and accidents were just as likely to get you as a ten step chain of events that is so farfetched as to boggle the mind. Does no one slip in the shower anymore? Shave with a straight razor, only to slip and cut their throat? Come on...it's not that hard to come up with innovative yet simple ways for these stupid young adults to kill themselves!
