...without the death, of course. ;D Yes, because there just wasn't enough scary movie talk in the official WC horror threads, this is the place for all things horror - from Tod Browning all the way up to Eli Roth. Come on up and join the party, throw your own reviews, what movies you've just seen, and all other types of general horror-related merryment in here, but don't smoke too much weed or have too much promiscuous sex, or Jason, Angela, or possibly Kayako Saeki might show up. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Just now, I'm re-watching The Grudge (the first American film with Sarah Michelle Geller) for the first time since I saw it in theaters. Initially I really liked it, but now that I've seen the entire Japanese series, I find myself just going "meh." Ju-On: The Grudge with more sound stinger scares is essentially what it amounts to.

Me and my buddy watched Critters 3 & 4 back-to-back yesterday.
I actually kind of enjoyed 3. Granny with a meat cleaver was awesome.
Critters 4 was absolutely terrible. For a movie called Critters, they barely were on screen (I'd estimate about 10 minutes of screen time in an hour and a half movie was devoted to the Critters). The plot wasn't engaging (I wouldn't normally bring this up, but since the movie was more focused on a plot as opposed to the Critters themselves, I feel good reason to chastise it). The movie itself was so bad me and my friend had a hard time cracking jokes at its expense. We were too bored and annoyed to put any effort into riffing it.

I liked the first Grudge at first to TR, but the more and more I watch it... not so much.

You wouldn't believe this, Y2J, but in all three WC horror threads, the Critters series has NEVER been brought up. Good to see you in here, though, man (apologize if I've ever missed one of your appearance in one of the WC threads). I agree with you, btw. You know, I really, really like the first two Critters movies; the second one gets a lot of flack, but really, I don't see what the problem is. It's the first movie on a slightly bigger scale; what more can you ask? And the third is cheesy good fun, and, unbelievably, is Leonardo DiCaprio's first film role. But the fourth? Eee-yikes. You know, as much as I enjoy the first three movies, the one thing that I DON'T like in all of them is Charlie. Don't ask me what the creative geniuses behind the series were thinking, but somehow, Charlie wound up as the lynchpin of the entire franchise. To me, his effect is about the same as Lucky on King of the Hill - he shows up, instant Conway Pop. And the fourth film of the series is pretty much focused exclusively on Mr. Opper. Needless to say, it's pretty painful to watch.

Also, just throwin' this out there: I think Freddy vs. Jason was underrated. I thought it was quite humorous, and had plenty of "Oh s*** dude, it is ON!" moments. Like I said, just throwin' it out there. I'm not big on horror movies by any means, but I know it gets a lot of flack.

Wait, wait, wait... Lucky is played by Tom Petty? Yes, sir. SOMEBODY at King of the Hill must be a big friend of the guy, as well, as I have never heard of a SINGLE KOTH fan that likes Lucky...but yet, he's still here torturing us with his extreme douchiness all these years later. Seriously, has a long-running series ever prominently featured a more dislikable, unfunny, unappealing character-killer (as Lucky pretty much destroyed the arc that Luanne was going through, transitioning from the trailer park to respectability)? /rant Aaron E., I'm definitely in agreement with you on F v J. I've seen some of the scripts that were collected for that project over the years, and it's safe to say that they went with the best one that was out there. The one that I remember the most painted Jason as an extremely sympathetic figure, even going so far as to end with a cheesy fade-in shot of a childhood photo of Mr. Voorhees complete with tender tinkly music. *vomit*

I absolutely loved Freddy vs Jason. I honestly can't think of any other way to have done that movie. The fight was fun and bloody. The story leading up to why they do battle was great, and I appreciated that they had an actual slasher film going on in between the fights (which tied in perfectly to the fight).
It was a great time at the theater, and I love to pop the film in every now and then.

I also thought FvJ was good, I thought it was one of (not the, though) best movies from each series. It was definatly better than any recent movies from both series (barring New Nightmare).

Hey y'all.
-The first time I saw The Grudge was when I bought it and showed it as the first movie of an Annual Horror Movie Fest I do, just getting together with a bunch of friends and hanging out. I was pretty "meh" on the movie, and I haven't watched it since then (it was a few years ago).
-I thought Freddy vs. Jason was an incredible movie, and really the only enjoyable New Line Jason movie.
-I recall someone on the "other" board talking about how the Lucky/Luann relationship is an excellent example of how realistic KOTH is. Like, an audience would expect Luann to meet some intelligent young guy and wind up marrying him if it was more of an ideal sitcom-type of show. But honestly, the show isn't all that realistic (unless we're comparing it to other prime time cartoons, but that's not really saying much). In the real world, I would've expected Bill to have killed himself by now. *shrug*

It's just one of several things on KOTH that I didn't personally like as a fan of a television show (if Bobby and Connie don't get back together in the series finale, TR will be a very sad panda, although I know what the odds of that are), but by and large they do shoot for more realism than most live-action sitcoms do. Back to reality for a second (and hopefully the new arrivals to this thread see how much camaraderie there is between the regular thread posters and how loosey-goosey the atmosphere is, and venture on over to the official WC Horror Threads and post there as well) - in regards to Freddy vs. Jason, I sometimes think that the people who don't like the movie are just a really loud, vocal minority. There may not be many of them, but they're EXTREMELY angry about the movie and man, they want you to know it.

Yeah, Peggy is quite annoying, although it IS by design. The KOTH writers apparently think Lucky is the second coming of George Carlin, considering their insistence on shoving him down our throats despite the fans complaining pretty much universally.
Just watched The Grudge 2 (the AmeriJap one, as Erisi calls it) today, and re-appraised its value; I now feel that this movie is FAR superior to the first American film. It has a feeling much more similar to the Japanese originals, as it jumps between its three "character groups" and timelines very well, and even manages to be a fairly scary flick on occasion. And my main complaint with it initially (that it attempts to over-explain Kayako's back story) is nowhere NEAR as big of a part of the movie's plot as I remembered it. A good solid *** 1/2 for The Grudge 2 (out of four).
Btw, I think I'd give the original American Grudge...oh, ** or so.

ON DEMAND is currently showing LEATHERFACE: TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE III. I checked it out (hey it was free!) and decided that it wasn't quite as bad as I originally remembered it being....but it wasn't as good either. In fact, I kind of found it....boring. How did this movie scare me so badly the first time through? Though I give it props for finally giving 'Face a worthy adversary in Ken Foree....

I've actually seen every other movie in the TCM franchise EXCEPT III...although I did think Leatherface and family had a worthy nemesis in the second installment. Lefty Enright ftw!

Actually, yeah, Lefty was pretty cool, and his connection to the story was nice. I found him a TAD too cartoonish for my liking, though. Hopper being Hopper, he overacted the HELL out of Lefty, whereas Ken Foree's character in III was just a straight up survivalist badass.
